The AI Pre-Flight: a fixed-scope AI readiness diagnostic
Find out whether AI belongs in a workflow before you spend on it. Written findings, a 0 to 100 readiness score, and a go or no-go, in two to eight weeks, for a fixed fee.
Bring one workflow. BBI measures the data behind it, maps the process as it actually runs (including the spreadsheets and side systems), tests whether a result can be traced back to its evidence and to a person who signs off, and hands you a roadmap in GROUND order. If the answer is not yet, that is a finding, not a failure, and you keep the roadmap.
Who it is for
Presidents, COOs, controllers, and ERP owners at mid-sized manufacturers (including healthcare and medical device manufacturers), government contractors, and regulated operations teams who have been asked for AI and need an answer they can defend to a board, an auditor, a prime, or a security reviewer. You do not need an AI team. You need one workflow and the person who owns it.
The four phases
| Phase | What BBI does | What you receive |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Data freshness and quality audit | Checks the data behind the workflow for the six ERP failure modes (negative quantities, ghost locations, orphaned BOMs, null lead times, stale cycle counts, duplicate vendors) and for ownership and freshness. | Findings with counts, values, and a decision trace per finding. |
| 2. Workflow and shadow-system mapping | Watches the work happen, finds where the real process runs, inventories the spreadsheets and side tools acting as systems of record. | The real process map and the shadow-system inventory with risk scores. |
| 3. Traceability stress test | Runs the workflow's data through BBI's rule-based traceability test to expose where an AI output could not be traced to its evidence or to an accountable person. | The traceability result, the review gate design, and the hard blockers. |
| 4. Prioritized readiness roadmap | Sequences what to fix, in GROUND order, and what to leave alone. States the go or no-go. | The written record: score, verdict, roadmap, and the one clean move to start with. |
What you leave with
- A 0 to 100 readiness score with the six GROUND stages scored, and a data-risk tier.
- A written go, fix-first, or not-yet verdict a reviewer can read in two minutes.
- The remediation roadmap in order, with owners, sized so the first move happens inside 30 days.
- The evidence files: the data findings, the process map, the shadow-system inventory, the review gate design.
- Capability transfer: your own people can run the free GROUND Instruments to keep the evidence current after BBI leaves.
Scope, timeline, and fee
One workflow and its system of record is the standard scope; additional workflows or systems extend it. Two to eight weeks depending on scope and data access. Fixed fee, agreed on the readiness call before anything starts; no open-ended consulting bill. BBI does not sell AI you are not ready for.
Before you book: the free version
Run the AI Readiness Checklist on the workflow first. It scores your own answers in twelve minutes and produces the brief. If the checklist says not yet, you may not need the Pre-Flight this quarter; if it says ready for review and your reviewers want the measured version, that is what the Pre-Flight is. Keeping the GROUND Instruments logs beforehand cuts the first week of discovery.
Questions buyers ask
What is the AI Pre-Flight?
A fixed-scope readiness diagnostic. Bring one workflow; BBI audits the data behind it, maps the real process including the spreadsheets, stress-tests whether a result can be traced to its evidence and a person who signs off, and hands you a prioritized readiness roadmap with a written go or no-go. Two to eight weeks depending on scope.
How much does the AI Pre-Flight cost?
It is priced as a fixed fee scoped on the readiness call, not an open-ended consulting bill. The fee depends on the number of workflows and systems in scope. Book the call and you will have a number before you commit to anything.
What do I receive at the end?
A short written record, not a slide deck: the data freshness and quality findings, the workflow and shadow-system map, the traceability test results, a 0 to 100 readiness score with the six GROUND stages scored, the go or no-go, and the remediation roadmap in GROUND order. If the answer is not yet, you keep the roadmap.
Who is the AI Pre-Flight for?
Mid-sized manufacturers (including healthcare and medical device manufacturers), government contractors, and regulated operations teams that have been asked to add AI to a workflow and need to know, with evidence, whether the operation is ready. The buyer is usually a president, COO, controller, or ERP owner, not an AI team.
What do I need to provide?
One workflow and the name of the person who owns it, read access or exports from the system of record for that workflow, an hour with the people who do the work, and the spreadsheets they use. The free GROUND Instruments logs, if you have been keeping them, cut the first week of discovery.
What if the answer is no?
That is a successful outcome. A clear no protects budget, and you still receive the prioritized roadmap: what to fix first, in order, and what would have to change before the answer becomes yes. Many engagements end in a scoped not yet with a 90-day plan.
How is this different from the free AI Readiness Checklist?
The checklist scores your own answers in twelve minutes. The Pre-Flight measures the data and the process themselves, on your real tables and with the people who do the work, and a person who has run this inside an ERP signs the result. Same method, two fidelities.
